Community Women Action (CWA) began in 1999 right here in Eerste River, Cape Town — born from our community’s deep need for safety, dignity, and opportunity.
The heartbreaking loss of 14-year-old Valencia Farmer shook us to the core and reminded us of the urgent need to protect and uplift those who are most vulnerable. We refused to let her story fade away. Instead, we chose to honour her memory by taking action — building something meaningful and lasting for the generations to come.
What started as a small grassroots movement has grown into a registered non-profit and accredited training organisation.
Today, we continue that journey by offering skills development, support, and empowerment programmes for women, youth, and families across Cape Town. Our work stands as a testament to the power of community — and to the belief that hope and action can transform lives.
Empowering Futures, Building Prosperity whilst Restoring Dignity.
At CWA, our mission is to actively contribute to the creation of a more prosperous and equitable world by championing sustainable job opportunities. We are dedicated to cultivating an environment that empowers individuals, promotes economic independence, and drives positive social impact. These actions in partnership with our core communities and service providers, will positively mitigate high levels of GBV, crime and other social challenges.
